About This Video

In this Saturday livestream, I’m hanging out with you guys and doing what we always do—talk homelab, self-hosting, and whatever rabbit holes we fall into. The plan for the stream is to dig through the latest Selfh.st weekly newsletter and check out some new Docker apps that might actually be worth adding to a real homelab (not just “cool on paper”). I also talk through what’s been going on behind the scenes, because it’s been a busy month and I’m way behind on content. The big update is my rack power draw. I finally got my setup down from roughly 350–400 watts to about 230–250 watts, and I’m super happy about it—especially with surge pricing coming in the evenings. I moved workloads off my HL15 (which idled around 120 watts doing basically nothing) and consolidated onto my ZimaCube running Proxmox, plus my always-on Synology. I also changed my backup approach: instead of keeping extra Proxmox VMs running on my NAS devices, I’m doing backups over SMB/CIFS so those backup NAS boxes can actually shut down on schedule and power back on when needed. On top of that, I walk through my TrueNAS VM setup for media storage and share what I learned (including the dumb mistake where I passed the same drive through twice).
