In this livestream we're going to take a look at MOS - Modular Operating System for Servers and Homelabs. This is a very early first look at the operating system. From the website: Based on Devuan and resource‑friendly: Web UI with monitoring, storage & shares, users, networking, notifications, web terminal plus Docker/LXC/VMs – modular and extensible. **Features** - System & hardware info (CPU/RAM/Disks/Sensors) - Storage, pools & shares – manage centrally - Docker/LXC/VM – visible depending on active service - Real-time notifications - Web terminal & tools for quick actions I found this in the selfh.st newsletter: https://selfh.st/weekly/2026-01-30/ Website: https://mos-official.net/ Github: https://github.com/ich777/mos-releases Documentation: https://github.com/ich777/mos-docs/ **Hardware** Beelink ME Pro: https://www.bee-link.com/products/beelink-me-pro Buy Beelink ME Pro: https://amzn.to/4qXMugO (Affiliate Link) NVMe: https://amzn.to/3ZFUeI3 (Affiliate Link) HDD: https://ebay.us/m/4pEnFq USB Drive: https://amzn.to/49U3Pkw (Affiliate Link) If our adventure into MOS ends too quickly, we'll scrap the idea and chat for a while. Oh! And the folks from CloudyTree Tea found out I like tea and reached out, so we'll try their Lychee Bloom Black Tea for the first time on stream. About This Video

In this livestream I do a completely blind, super early first look at MOS (Modular Operating System for Servers and Homelabs). It’s still very beta (we’re talking early versions), so the whole point is to poke at it, see what it does well, see what’s missing, and get a feel for whether it has real homelab potential. MOS is based on Devuan (so Debian-ish, but without systemd), and the pitch is a resource-friendly server OS with a web UI that pulls together monitoring, storage/pools/shares, users, networking, notifications, a web terminal, and then Docker/LXC/VM features depending on what services you enable. Before we even get MOS installed, I spend time on the hardware I’m using for the test: the Beelink ME Pro, which is basically a mini PC in a NAS-style form factor. I throw in a couple of 8TB Seagate Barracudas (not perfect “NAS drives,” but totally fine for what we’re doing here), and I talk through the little design choices—like the included tool, the drive trays, and yes… my usual rant about power bricks hanging off the wall. If MOS ends up being a dead end, we pivot into a chat—because that’s just how these weekend streams go.
