About This Video

In this live self-hosting chat, I’m basically hanging out with you guys, catching up on the latest self-hosting news, and talking through what’s going on in my own homelab right now. We start with the usual “are we clipping?” audio check, then roll straight into community Q&A and some real talk about creator life—like how sometimes a video you’re proud of (my recent Home Assistant dashboard for my kid) just doesn’t hit the way you expect. Behind the scenes though, that dashboard has been working great, and that’s the part that actually matters to me. On the homelab side, the big headline is Watchtower getting archived, which honestly makes me sad because I still use it—specifically as a simple update *notifier*, not an auto-updater. I show exactly why: in Portainer, it makes it dead simple to spot which containers have updates (the image string changes), then I can just repull and recreate. We also talk alternatives like Tugboat/Tugtainer and whether it’s stopping/restarting everything or just what’s being updated. And as always, I sprinkle in my philosophy: I split services into separate Proxmox LXCs because it makes restores and troubleshooting easier on my “dumb brain days,” even if the internet elitists want to yell about it.
