About This Video

In this live self-hosting chat, I’m hanging out with you guys, catching up on what’s going on in the self-hosting world, and answering questions as they come in. I start off with some real-life homelab progress—like the 3D-printed mini rack I showed in a short (three mini PCs, a pass-through panel with keystones, and an 8-port switch). It’s working great now, but of course it wouldn’t be a DB Tech week without something breaking—my Creality K1 Max hotend died and replacing it turned into a whole “why is this not the easy fix” kind of nightmare. We also get into some platform talk: I’ve been testing Canonical MicroCloud (MicroCloud/LXD-style) on a 3-node mini PC cluster with Ceph for distributed storage. It’s similar to Proxmox in the “clustered resources” sense, but it’s definitely not the same, and learning a new platform that’s “close but different” is always a little bit of a brain reset. On the community Q&A side, we talk about Immich (and why I personally haven’t switched off Synology Photos), the TTRSS situation and forks, and why I’m pushing myself to finally use an RSS reader (FreshRSS) so I can stop being scatterbrained and actually keep up with self-hosting news without doomscrolling Reddit.
