There are a wide variety of factors that can cause shoulder pain. Common causes of shoulder pain include poor posture, partaking in repetitive overhead activities (such as painting or lifting), sleeping on one side for too long, or overworking the muscle or joint during exercise. Conditions that can cause shoulder pain include osteoarthritis, tendonitis, bursitis, pinched nerve, frozen shoulder, or a tendon tear. If you are affected by chronic shoulder pain that won’t go away, despite over-the-counter medication or doing physiotherapy exercises, it’s time to seek medical assistance. Your doctor can help determine what may be troubling your shoulders. What kind of joint is the shoulder? The shoulder is a ball-and-socket joint that connects your upper arm bone and shoulder blade, allowing you move and rotate your arms. Ball and socket refers to the fact that rounded end of your upper arm bone fits into a curve pocket in your shoulder blade. Can you get arthritis in your shoulder? Yes, you can get arthritis in your shoulder, however it is less common than getting it in your knee or hip.
