There are a wide variety of factors that can cause back pain. Common causes of back pain include bad posture, heavy lifting, muscle or ligament strain, or lack of exercise. Conditions that can cause back pain include bulging or ruptured discs, arthritis, sciatica, scoliosis, and osteoporosis. If you are affected by chronic back pain that won’t go away, despite over-the-counter medication or increased physical exercise, it’s time to seek medical assistance. Your doctor can help determine what may be troubling your back. Should I be worried about back spasms? Spasms in your back muscles is a common type of back pain. They can feel like small twinges or debilitating contractions. You can apply at home treatments to help ease the spasms. These can include ice and heat, muscle relaxants, massages, stretches, and consistent exercise. In some cases, back spasms can be a sign of a serious condition. If you are concerned about back spasm or pain, visit your GP or a physiotherapist right away to further investigate your symptoms. What does nerve pain in the back feel like? People often describe nerve pain in the back as feeling like a burning, shooting, stabbing, or electric shock sensation. You may also feel tingling, numbness, or extra sensitivity, so even a light touch, clothing, or bed sheets can feel painful. Want further information or advice about treatments for back pain?
