About This Video

It’s been a minute since I’ve done a camping video, so I headed out solo for a quick fall truck-camping mission with my dirt bike in tow. The goal was simple: ride a bit, chase some hot springs, and see what the weather would let me get away with after a gnarly rain that dropped temps below freezing and pulled the snow line way down. I’m in my rattly-but-beloved 1991 Ford (we bought it from Satie’s grandpa), and instead of setting up my hot tent, I just slept in the truck bed so I wouldn’t have to pack up a soaked tent in the morning. Before it got fully dark, I waded across the river (boxers and Crocs… because I forgot shorts) and found a few different hot spring pools. I’m officially picky now—94° is “fine,” but it doesn’t hit like the hotter upper pool. The next morning was cold, wet, and slick, and trail plans changed fast: snow was slimy, traction was sketchy, and one route I wanted was a no-go for dirt bikes. I still got a solid ride in, only crashed once, and then wrapped the trip by grabbing a few chunks of downed firewood for my sauna. Sometimes the win is just getting out, learning the conditions, and coming home in one piece.
