In this video, I’m making one of my favorite rainy-day enrichment crafts: dog “licky art” painting! I’ve done these before with Dexter, and this time Stewart is my helper. I walk you through my exact setup—starting with an 8x10 board that I painted gold and let dry first. Then I add letter stickers for “Stewart” (not perfectly straight, because I wanted a little pizzazz) and really rub them down to try to prevent paint from sneaking underneath. Next, I grab a 2-gallon zip bag so the whole board can fit, spread a thin layer of almond butter on the outside of the bag where Stewart will lick, and then add generous blobs of paint to the board (Stewart is my purple boy, so I went with purples and a little blue). Since the paint stays sealed inside the bag, your dog isn’t actually touching it—your pup is just licking the almond butter on the top while their tongue pressure moves the paint around underneath. After Stewart finishes, I carefully remove the painting, let it dry, and reveal the name area—then I show you how I fixed it when the sticker reveal wasn’t perfect by painting his name in. It’s simple, calming, and you end up with a sweet keepsake made with your dog.
