Does your dog bark at the TV, especially when dogs, animals, or fast-moving scenes pop up? I have helped so many dog parents through this exact behavior, and it often comes down to a mix of excitement, frustration, and confusion about what’s happening on the screen. In this video, I walk you through positive dog training steps you can use today to help your dog relax and make better choices. Whether you share your life with a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel or another breed, the process is the same. I’ll show you how to: • understand your dog’s triggers on TV • use distance, management, and rewards to prevent barking • teach alternative behaviors using positive reinforcement • reduce over-arousal so your dog can settle • support sensitive dogs who get overwhelmed by screen movement or animal sounds These are the same trust-building strategies I’ve used with Stewart and with my sweet Dexter over the years. They make a real difference because they focus on connection, not correction. 📚 If you want a deeper look at building real-life manners through positive reinforcement, my Manners, Life Skills and Foundation Training Course is always open. You’ll get clear lessons, real examples, and video feedback when you need it. ➡️ http://royalpupstrainingandwellbeing.com/ 🐶💙 Support our passion for pet wellness! About This Video

In this video, I’m walking you through how I stop a Cavalier (or any dog) from barking at the TV—especially when dogs, squirrels, or fast-moving scenes pop up. I’ve helped so many dog parents with this, and the big mindset shift is this: we’re untraining an existing habit, not teaching a fresh behavior. So I assume the trigger could show up at any moment, I keep treats ready, and I teach my dog what I’d rather them do—like coming over to me—because I’m more exciting than what’s on the screen. I show you how I use desensitizing and counter conditioning by controlling the picture and sound. We start with visuals only (volume down), doing quick “on/off” reps: trigger appears, I pause, say “yes,” and toss treats—even if my dog barked, because I’m conditioning “trigger = food” and building that check-in. Then we build duration, switch to different videos so it’s not “that one dog,” and practice audio-only too. Finally, we sandwich audio + visual together again and rebuild from short reps. I also share prevention for puppies and new dogs—pay off calm TV moments early, and you’ll thank me later.
