One of the questions I get a lot is how to keep your Cavalier’s ears clean, and in this final video of my Cavalier grooming series I explain why I honestly don’t spend my life scrubbing Stewart or Angel Dexter’s ears. For my Cavaliers, a fresh natural diet has been the biggest game-changer. When we keep things natural and avoid common fillers, their system stays more balanced, and that often shows up as less waxy build-up and fewer “stinky ear” problems that can be tied to inflammation or sensitivities. That said, it’s not one-size-fits-all. If your Cavalier is out romping in the yard, they can pick up moisture or debris and may need a little help. I also talk about a really important breed-specific point: if your Cavalier’s ears look clean but they’re scratching, head-tilting, or acting uncomfortable, please don’t assume it’s just “dirty ears.” In our breed, that can sometimes point to something more serious like PSOM (glue ear) or Chiari malformation, so it’s vet time. And if you truly do need to clean ears at home, I demonstrate my gentle method: no Q-tips, just a natural ear cleaner on a cotton round to wipe the ear leather, slow gentle drops only if needed, a quick massage at the base, and then the towel trick for the inevitable head shake—followed by a high-value treat so your Cavalier stays comfortable with the process.
