If you’re looking for a 3D scanner that actually works and delivers immaculate detail, in this video I put the Revopoint MetroX through real, practical tests in my workshop. I start right from unboxing (yes, the premium suitcase is a lovely touch) and show you the full setup: connecting everything, downloading the correct software, and doing the calibration with the glass plate and barcode. Then I walk you through the two main scanning approaches—marker scan and feature scan—because which one you pick really depends on the object and the finish. For the main project, I scan a detailed wooden carving that’s been in my family for donkey’s years, with loads of fine texture and tricky shapes. I explain how I place the markers (random, not in a pattern, and you need at least five dots per frame), then I use global marker tracking to get maximum accuracy. After the scan, I show the cleanup workflow inside the software (one-click edit, clipping away the junk, and autofilling holes), and honestly—I was blown away that it even captured wood grain. To prove it’s not just a toy, I also scan a hammer (two-sided scan and merge) and show a turntable workflow with color scanning on a head model. Finally, I export the mesh and 3D print a miniature, which confirms the files are absolutely usable for 3D printing and CNC workflows—just expect a bit of a learning curve.
