About This Video

Welcome to my workshop. In this video I’m showing the full step-by-step process I used to make upholstered decorative wall panels — and in my case, they became a headboard wall for my son’s bed. I’m using 9 mm MDF as the base, cutting five panels to size, then building them up with upholstery foam, a thin 1 cm batting layer, and a really nice blue/denim fabric. The big takeaway here is it looks premium and custom, but it’s genuinely not difficult — no special tools required, just a bit of planning and patience. I walk through the exact order that makes the job easier: cut the foam, spray-glue it to the MDF (and you really do only get one good chance to line it up), staple on the batting with a small overhang, then stretch and staple the fabric starting from the middle and finishing with tidy corners. I also show how I handled cutouts for a lamp, a light switch, and a socket — hole saw/Forstner bit for the MDF, then a simple cross cut in the fabric and fold it in. For mounting, I used adhesive Velcro strips because I’ve used them before and they work very, very well — just be sure you place the panels right first time because repositioning is a pain. The end result: straight, even, no gaps, and a massive upgrade to the room.
