I’m stretching my freshly washed and deep conditioned Type 4 hair with a roller set so I can see what’s really going on with my ends and give myself a proper trim. I walk you through my prep (I shampoo twice—clarifying then moisturizing—then deep condition), and then I layer in lightweight moisture and protection before rolling. I’m using my grip rollers (a staple over here) and I show exactly how I part, how much hair to put on each roller, and the little tricks that keep your ends from getting crunched. I also talk through why I’m adding more moisture this time—because I’m not trying to cause breakage for no reason—and how I make sure my hair is soaking wet so it stretches as much as possible. After rolling, I sit under the hooded dryer for an hour, then I add 15 minutes of cool air to help everything set. I try to wrap my hair (y’all…not today), then I do a one-pass silk press using the chase method at 410 with heat protectant in the mix.
