About This Video

In this video, I put Pattern Beauty’s Original (OG) stylers head-to-head with the Palo Santo mini styling kit because I genuinely thought I might’ve bought the same products twice in different packaging. I did a true side-by-side “ping pong” application—leave-in on one side, then leave-in on the other—so I could feel the slip, weight, and finish in real time. The first thing I noticed was the scent: the OG gives more of a nostalgic salon vibe, and the Palo Santo smells brighter with a little floral to it (and I liked that scent better). Texture-wise, the leave-ins felt basically the same on my hair—lightweight, melty, and super versatile. Where I started to feel a difference was in the creams and how they sat on my strands. One side felt thicker and more coating (with noticeable residue/film), which weighed my hair down a bit—honestly not mad at it because that weight can help with longevity. The other side felt lighter with less film, seeped into my hair easier, and still gave shine and definition. I finished both sides with mousse for a flexible hold (not gel-level hold), flat twisted, dried under the hooded dryer, and checked back on day two. Since I didn’t set my hair overnight, the hold didn’t last like it could’ve—but moisture was definitely there, and I ended up calling it a tie because the difference is real… just subtle.
