About This Video

In this video, I brought back The Doux Block Party Anti-Humidity Gel… and yes, I was nervous because I’ve already tried it twice for wash and gos and we didn’t really like it (sorry, not sorry). But me and the girlies were talking twist outs, so I tested it the way I actually wanted to: a medium-size two-strand twist out. I did one side with Block Party gel alone, and the other side with Block Party gel layered with The Doux Chief Rocka Extreme Moisture Mousse, because it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t do a little comparison. I focused on coating every strand without packing on product so my hair could actually dry, then I sat under my hooded dryer for 40 minutes and let it finish air drying overnight (that’s just my MO). On takedown, the gel-only side had a stronger cast and more “stuck together” definition, while the gel + mousse side felt softer and more flexible, with easier application and takedown—though I did notice more flake during separating on the combo side. After 3–4 days, both sides still had shape and definition, but the gel-only side clearly held definition better. Still, I chose the gel + mousse side as the winner because the overall package—application, feel, volume, definition, and ease—just had me together.
