About This Video

Hey y’all—In this video I’m switching my hair up for the fall and taking my natural brown hair to a beautiful blue black (jet black vibes) with NO damage. I walk you through exactly what you need (dye, developer, Vaseline, clips, bowl/brush, gloves) and how I prep so you don’t end up with stained skin—Vaseline around the hairline, nape, and especially the ears because that’s where dye loves to stick. I also show you how I mix my color the right way: I weigh everything out and do a true 1:1 ratio (whatever amount of dye you use is the same amount of developer). Because I’m using a demi-permanent dye, I stick with 10 volume developer only—no need for 20/30/40 since I’m not trying to lift my hair, just tint it darker. For application, I focus on roots first by parting about an inch at a time and fully saturating the top and bottom of each part so no brown is peeking through, then I move faster through the lengths. After processing up to 40 minutes, I rinse until the water runs clear, shampoo twice with a color-safe shampoo, and then go in with my elasticity restoring treatment to balance protein and moisture after the chemical service. The result? The black is blacking, the shine pops, and my curls still look healthy the next day.
