About This Video

In this spoiler-filled Red Rising reading vlog, I take you through my first thoughts, live reactions, and a full recap-style review of book one—because I wanted context for all the times I rave about this series, and honestly, I also wanted a reread record for myself. I start right from the prologue (because that opening line???), explain the color hierarchy (Reds at the bottom, Golds at the top), and talk about how the book immediately sets up this brutal, manipulative society built on slavery of both the body and the mind. I walk you through Darrow’s life underground on Mars: the helium-3 mining, the laurel competitions that keep clans fighting each other, and the way “duty, obedience, sacrifice, hierarchy” are hammered into them as propaganda. Then we get into the turning point—Eo’s anger, the forbidden song, her becoming a martyr, and how Darrow is pushed into action through grief and rage. From there I recap the Sons of Ares, the reveal of the surface world, and the plan to carve Darrow into a Gold, which is as gruesome as it sounds. I close out with my character-focused thoughts (my usual Co-Pile-ish approach): Darrow’s obsessive love, how fully fleshed the cast feels, and why this story hits harder than “just a war book.” This reread is me gearing up for book seven, and it reminded me how much of Red Rising is about love, control, and breaking chains.
