Why I Ignore My Kawasaki Z900RS Fuel Gauge

My motorcycle's fuel gauge is starting to create range anxiety when I ride. And it's my own fault. The Kawasaki Z900RS has a gauge and a fuel light, but they don't help. What are your motorcycle's idiosyncrasies with its fuel gauge? Is it accurate? When it says you’re empty, are you? Or are you still riding a bike with a reserve petcock? If so, I think I envy you.
