Rust… or relief? The Kawasaki's fuel tank is 25 years old. What's inside? The Kawasaki W650 is back in the garage — and this time we’re going deeper into the custom rebuild. In this short time-lapse, I drain the tank, remove the knee pads, strip the decals, and pull the fuel tap to inspect what’s really going on inside. Contaminated fuel? Rust? Hidden surprises? Or proof that this bike has been well cared for? This is one of those critical workshop moments in any custom motorcycle build — the point where you find out whether you're working with solid foundations… or creating more work for yourself. 🔧 In This Episode: Draining and inspecting the fuel Removing tank decals (goodbye bling) Checking the fuel tap & diaphragm Inspecting fuel filters for debris or rust Preparing the tank for metal work and paint #W650Custom #MotorcycleRebuild #FuelTankInspection The tank is headed for bodywork and a fresh finish, but first it needed a proper teardown and inspection. What I found might surprise you. 🏷 OEM Parts Available As this W650 comes apart, select stock components — including the front and rear mudguards and even the original decals (yes, really) — will be available to viewers restoring their own bikes. About This Video

This one’s a proper “before the pretty stuff” workshop episode on my 25-year-old Kawasaki W650. Before the tank heads off for bodywork and paint, I tear it down and find out what I’m actually working with. In a short time-lapse I drain the fuel, peel off the decals, pull the knee pads, and remove the fuel tap so I can inspect the inside of the tank and the filters. It’s that make-or-break moment in a build where you either breathe a sigh of relief… or discover you’ve just bought yourself a pile of extra work. I’m looking for the usual suspects: contaminated fuel, debris in the filters, rust in the seams, and any hidden surprises around the tap and diaphragm. The goal is simple—confirm the foundations are solid before I spend time (and money) on metal work and a fresh finish. If you’re following the W650 build, this is the unglamorous but critical step that sets up everything that comes next—because the cinematic roads will return, but only after the garage work is done.
