I’ve been off for about eight or nine days, and I hated being gone that long—especially after promising more uploads—but we had a couple of scary vet emergencies hit all at once. First, Maggie suddenly started shaking, crying, and panting for hours with no obvious cause. After an emergency vet visit and a bunch of tests, we found out she’s positive for Lyme disease and another tick-borne disease (Ehrlichia). She’s now on a full month of antibiotics, and thank goodness she’s starting to feel a bit better, because watching her in that much discomfort was brutal. Then we got the news we were hoping we wouldn’t get: Gideon wasn’t doing well, and things went downhill fast. He stopped eating and drinking normally, lost weight suddenly, and was struggling—especially with a front leg limp—while his symptoms stayed confusing. After working with our vet, we learned there was nothing we could do, and we made the heartbreaking decision to let him go because he was in too much pain. We buried him with Foxy, and it’s just not the same without him. To end the day on something gentler, we watch Kate and Stevie riding in the arena, practicing skills from lessons, and soaking up a weirdly warm March break day in Canada. It’s real farm life—beautiful moments mixed right in with the hard ones.
