It felt like an early May day in Ontario — the kind of weather that’s basically unheard of — and I was honestly sweating in a t-shirt while we chatted about how wild this winter has been. We’ve already started thinking about gardens because it’s been so consistently nice… but we all know Canada can still throw snow at you in May. Then we headed into the riding portion where I got back in the saddle after a long break, and Kate started getting Flora back into work with flatwork, poles, and some jump exercises. We played around with jumping (including the “no stirrups” chaos) and talked through why certain pole-and-angle setups can help with lead changes — basically little tips Kate picked up from her coaches, including spacing and counting strides for what works best for that specific horse. We also had some real farm-life moments with Duke being Duke (his love language is absolutely grabbing other horses’ blankets), plus updates on our goats: Grace’s ligaments have been softening, so we’re in that “any day now” waiting game for healthy babies. We even did a quick baby goat visit with friends and grabbed a few last-minute kidding kit items and new bunny tunnels for the crew.
