In this vlog, I take you along for a ride with Stevie while Kate and I try to untangle what her new horse show season needs to look like. The big goal is qualifying to try out for the equestrian university team, and that means we’ve got to be smart about sanctioned shows, the right classes, and actually getting the placings she needs. Between prom dates, travel, and the fact that we’re not exactly surrounded by sanctioned shows, we’re looking at shifting plans—and yes, we might become jumpers. We talk through the differences between hunters, equitation/medals, and jumpers, and why jumpers might make more sense for us right now (clear rounds, speed, and building Stevie’s fitness). You’ll see Kate setting exercises the way her coach suggests—angles, bending lines, poles, and circles—to help with lead changes and overall rideability. We’re also working Stevie in intervals (work, catch a breath, work again) and even taking her out to the hayfield to build stamina. On top of all that, we share a pretty wild farm-life moment: someone who came to buy baby chicks from us is a Canadian Olympian, and he invited Kate to come see his horses. So we’ve got big riding goals, real-life scheduling chaos, and a whole lot of flatwork in our future.
