In this December market vlog, I carried you guys along on my very first market run of the month—yes, 1st of December—so you can hear the real, current cost of food in a Nigerian market. I didn’t want to do too much voice-over because the whole point is for you to catch the prices as they are, especially with how December rush can make things double overnight. I went in with my list, but like I always say, for Nigerian market you must keep extra “miscellaneous” money because anything can happen. I bought most items in bulk—cartons, bags, and rubbers—because I’m shopping for my large family and December is not the time to be doing small small. I got onions, dry fish (bonga), soup thickeners like apon (akpụ) and ogbono, palm oil in rubbers, garri, seasonings, and household essentials. I also showed you the rice gist: we already booked Angie’s rice since November at ₦55,000 per 50kg (transportation to Port Harcourt included), because December market price is already around ₦75,000–₦80,000 per bag. When I got home, I did a proper haul of what I could film—milk and Milo in rows, Terra Gold oil, premium Crown spaghetti (my favorite because it doesn’t stick or go soggy), yams, and more. Altogether, I spent ₦400,000 in this market run, and this video is for any mom trying to plan, budget, and still feed her family well in Nigeria right now.
