In this video, I’m packing my hospital bag—Nigeria edition—because yes, I’m giving birth to this baby in Nigeria. I’ve seen the comments asking if the baby is not traveling, but mama is not fit to fly. With the health challenges I’ve been dealing with in this pregnancy (and advice from my US doctor plus the doctors here), I’m not risking anything. Right now, the main goal is simple: for mama and baby’s head to come out alive, and for this journey to end in praise. I’m currently 37 weeks and 4 days, and because “the way this baby has been doing me,” I said let me pack up on time. I show you what I’m taking for myself—nursing bras, that disposable-pants-style underwear I’m used to from the US, two button-front maternity gowns for easy breastfeeding, a simple coming-home gown, my already-packed toiletry bag, pads, and breast pads for leaking. Then I show baby’s own: towels and washcloths, two bodysuits and two coveralls (because I’m praying it’s just 24 hours in the hospital), baby bath set, diapers and wipes, receiving blankets, a cot sheet, and the mosquito net (because Nigeria is Nigeria). I also mention the hospital-specific items you must buy from them, plus my flask—because pepper soup after delivery is not negotiable.
