Measuring Tape 2. Dremel 4000 (Has varying speeds & a flexible extension shaft. As seen in the clip, we also use a spiral bit, a bit-removal wrench, a router bit, and sanding bands) 3. Xacto Knives 4. Sharpee Marker Steps Taken: 1. Drew a rough sketch. 2. Cut out individual pieces from the foam to create the hides’ structure. 3. Labeled and glued each piece together. 4. Weighed down hides with slate tile and left to dry overnight. 5. Filled any gaps with spray foam, if needed, and let dry. 6. Shaped hides using Dremel tool. Router bit was used for rough cuttings and detail work. Sanding bit was used for gentle cuttings and sanding of every surface. 7. Covered hides with 3 layers of grout – allowed to dry for a full 24 hours between layers. On 3rd layer, smoothed over brush strokes for a sandy texture. 8. Painted hides with acrylic paint. 9. Sealed hides with 3 layers of spray sealant – allowed to dry for 1 hour between layers and a full 24 hours before exposure to the animal. Dimensions of each hide: Dome-style Hide: 8 inches in diameter (8 inches long, 8 inches wide), 4 inches tall inside, 5.5 inches tall outside, opening is 3 inches, weighs 19 ounces Corner-style Hide: 8 inches long on both sides, 8 inches deep from opening, 11.5 inches across the front, 4 inches tall inside, 5.5 inches tall outside, opening is 3.5 inches, weighs 18 ounces Log-style Hide: 7 inches long, 7 inches wide, 3 inches tall inside, 5.5 inches tall outside, opening is 4 inches, weighs 13 ounces Come Follow Us!
