About This Video

Howdy everybody—Omar here, your Audio Amigo. In Headphone Hoedown Ep.7 I put the Meze 99 Classics V2 under the microscope: unboxing, accessories, cable, build, comfort, specs, and the whole “cool wall” vibe check (plus a quick stop with the Council of Ladies). These are a 10th anniversary refresh of Meze’s most famous entry-level closed-back, and at $350 they’re aiming for that sweet spot where you want something portable, premium-feeling, and easy to live with. They were loaned to me by Meze, and I’m transparent about that. The big story is the tuning options. Stock, I hear a well-executed V-shape with clean, punchy bass and plenty of treble sparkle. With the included foam discs installed, the signature gets warmer and darker—bass/mids come up and the treble energy falls away. I also experimented with DIY damping (paper towel, napkin, Kleenex, shop towel), and my personal favorite ended up being a shop-towel “middle ground,” but for the review I focus on stock vs. foam. I wrap it up with comparisons against the AKG K361, FiiO FT1, Meze 99 Noir, and Dan Clark Aeon Closed X—covering tuning, comfort, build, and technicalities—then give my ranking and who I think should actually buy the 99 Classics V2.
