#jackdouglas #modelone #recordplayer #vinyl Jack is a multi-platinum music producer, mixer, recording engineer, arranger and composer. His credits include work on iconic albums, many of which are listed in Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time". After purchasing a Model-One system, we discovered who Jack was, and found him to be fount of knowledge about music production, equipment, vinyl and more. James DiPaolo (Andover Audio Marketing Director) interviewed Jack to share his story with our community. Jack shares his knowledge about audio formats, test vinyl pressing (which Jack plays on his Model-One system), mono vs. stereo, mixing and more. "I had a test pressing of Double Fantasy...[on the Model-One] it sounded like the mix. And that's most important to me. That it represented the mix perfectly. You can't really ask for more than that." - Jack Douglas We look forward to doing more videos of this sort. Let us know what you enjoyed in the comments! About This Video

In this video, I sit down with legendary multi‑platinum producer/engineer Jack Douglas after we realized he’d been using our Model-One Turntable Music System for something pretty serious: checking test pressings. Jack’s been “between two speakers” for over 50 years, and he walks me through his personal format journey—building a massive vinyl library (and losing it in a flood), living with tape and cassettes, embracing the convenience of CDs, and still keeping a sharp ear for what different formats do (and don’t) capture. We dig into why vinyl has pulled him back in, and what he’s listening for when he drops the needle—especially on test pressings from projects like Double Fantasy, Aerosmith, Patti Smith, and Cheap Trick. One of my favorite moments is Jack’s take on mono: he explains how classic mono mixes were built for depth, not width, and why that can feel more like a real “stage” than a left/right stereo picture. Jack also shares a practical mixing reality: in his studio, the final check is a small Bose Wave Radio because if it translates there, it’ll translate to earbuds and streaming. Bottom line: the gear and the format matter, but what matters most is representation—Jack wants playback that “sounds like the mix,” and that’s exactly what he told me he heard on the Model-One.
