About This Video

I’m in Shanghai for the first time ever, and this video is basically a week-in-my-life of me getting shown around the city by my friend Vivian (thank god, because Shanghai is huge). We start with one of my favorite things to do in China: Chinese breakfast near West Nanjing Road. It’s still crazy to me how convenient everything is—scan a QR code on the wall, pay instantly, and you’re done. We also hit a super famous spot (queued for an hour) for dessert, then wander through older-style areas full of shops where I get humbled trying to buy a “student ticket” and the staff basically says I don’t look like I’m in school anymore. That’s when it hit that I’m 25. Because it’s been raining a lot, we try to balance indoor stuff with the classic Shanghai “city walk” vibe—using Xiaohongshu to find itineraries, cafes, and routes. I also go check out camera gear because camera equipment can be cheaper in China, and I wanted to see the Sony ZV-E1. The highlight for me though was finally finding a calisthenics park and training with the Chinese grandpas—one guy hit a front lever combo and he only started after retiring at 60. It’s honestly motivating: no excuses, just show up (unless it’s raining).
