About This Video
I never thought I’d be the guy saying this, but I quit my six-figure software engineering job. In this video I’m in North Wales with nine of my closest friends, hiking around Snowdonia National Park, getting rained on, and trying to keep up while my friends speed-run a “not so little” hill. Between the lake walk, the cold plunge (apparently 9°C, but we’ve done worse), and the random moments that make trips memorable, I talk through what was going on in my head when I decided to walk away from comfort.
The honest reason: for years, the path was basically chosen for me—study computer science, graduate, become a software engineer. But in my final year of uni I started making videos, and I couldn’t unsee this future version of myself where I build a life around creating. I didn’t even get a real break after graduating (my job wanted me to start a week after my last coursework), so this is me finally giving the dream a chance. I’m not pretending it’s some perfectly logical move on paper—I only had around 11k subscribers—but I’m treating it as a break, not a permanent goodbye to engineering. The takeaway is simple: failure teaches, regret lingers, so I’d rather go again than wonder “what if.”
