About This Video

In this video I’m breaking down my 1-year body transformation using calisthenics only—from being a pretty skinny, “average gym goer” straight out of uni to where I’m at now. I start from the beginning: I used to do the classic push/pull gym bro split (bench, machines, curls, pushdowns) with no real goal besides looking better, and I eventually got bored and started skipping sessions. Everything changed when I booked my first calisthenics class at Kinetics Republic in January 2023 and trained under Lee Wade Turner, one of the OGs in UK calisthenics. He pushed me hard and introduced me to weighted calisthenics, which is a big reason I progressed so fast. I test my max weighted pull-ups and dips (45kg on both) and explain why progressive overload is the “boring but effective” key—aiming for 5–10 reps and adding weight once I can hit 10. I also talk about the communities that leveled me up: New Territories (a wholesome East/Southeast Asian calisthenics group) and training at Beckton gymnastics gym, where I got humbled by real athletes and learned faster. Finally, I cover what I did for diet: I don’t track calories, but I focus on low-carb, high-protein meals and aim for ~120g protein/day at 60kg bodyweight. The big takeaway: enjoy the process, train skills frequently (grease-the-groove), and overload the basics if you want skills like the front lever.
