About This Video

In part 2 of my breastfeeding journey series, I’m covering the “middle chunk” of our story—roughly from 2 months through to about 20 months. After my son’s tongue ties were revised around 9 weeks, everything changed: he could actually feed, his sleep improved (we were bed-sharing full-time and following the Safe Sleep Seven), and his weight gain shot up. I also talk about feeding on demand (my forever motto is “when in doubt, whip it out”), why I don’t stress about schedules, and how I found real education and community through supportive Facebook groups. I share what it looked like to return to study and then work, pumping while he was in daycare, and the rollercoaster of bottles—he took them well at first, then refused after a break from daycare during 2020 restrictions. We problem-solved with an open cup and a lot of patience from his educators. I also go into the not-so-glam bits: nursing strikes when babies are congested, blocked ducts, mastitis that hit fast and hard (fevers are no joke), and the back-and-forth of thrush/candida—especially after antibiotics. I finish with the key support that helped me most, including the Australian Breastfeeding Association helpline, and why I’m still so pro breastfeeding support that I joke I could’ve been a lactation consultant in another life.
