You might as well start calling me the smart ring review guy, because in this video I’m testing the Nova Ring R and breaking down why it’s such an incredible value at its price point. I’m very upfront about the limitations of the ring form factor—if you want the most accurate, most in-depth health data, a strap or band like Whoop or the Amazfit Helio is still going to win. But for a ring, the Nova Ring R surprised me in the best way: my results were very much in line with what I see from my UltraHuman Ring Air, and not that far off my Helio strap benchmarks. I cover the full experience: unboxing, build quality, comfort, and the charging setup (which is genuinely the best-looking smart ring dock I’ve used so far). The ring charges in about an hour, has 5 ATM water resistance, and there’s no subscription—huge for value. Battery life in my testing landed around 4–5 days (vs. 6–8 on UltraHuman), but the fast top-up makes it easy to live with. I also go through features like sleep tracking (including sleep stages), heart rate/HRV, and manual or sleep-only blood oxygen readings. On top of that, the app has a surprisingly well-developed meditation section, plus a gesture-based camera shutter that’s cool (even if it’s a bit hit-and-miss). Overall, for roughly $179, it’s extremely compelling versus rings that cost close to $400.
