Quick and easy landscape environment animation in Unreal Engine 5 using landscape tools, the newly added water features and the movie render queue.

About This Video

In this video I break down the exact workflow I use to go from a total landscape “monstrosity” to a clean environment shot that honestly looks way harder than it is. The first step is always research: I comb through Pinterest, grab references that inspire me, and organize everything in PureRef so I’m not guessing once I’m inside Unreal. Then I start a blank game template, do a little housekeeping (enable the Water + Water Extras plugins and Movie Render Queue, restart, and turn off auto exposure), and jump straight into building the island. I create a landscape and sculpt it quick and dirty with the standard sculpt brush, then use flatten for the main platform, smooth where the land meets water, and erode/hydro for subtle wear. For the water, I add a Water Lake actor and shape it with spline points (you can right-click to add more points and dial it in). After that it’s mostly Quixel Bridge: I pull in a statue/shrine asset (this cat-wolf thing), set up a wide landscape camera (18mm, f/1.8), and fill out the scene with more Megascans assets and a landscape shader. To finish, I animate a subtle camera move in a Level Sequence, then render through Movie Render Queue with overridden anti-aliasing at 64 samples for a clean final output.
