Not an amazing animator? Wish you could add great animations and realistic motion to your scenes? Enter unreal engine’s unbelievable simple animation animation retargetting system. That’s what I used to put together this fight cinematic just a few minutes. The new system is unbelievably straight forward and beginner friendly; it just takes a few clicks. Enjoy! About This Video

Yo what’s happening guys—this video is my updated, super simple workflow for animation retargeting in Unreal Engine 5.2. I recently stumbled onto this method and it’s honestly way more straightforward than people make it seem, as long as you set yourself up correctly. The biggest tip I can give you is to grab characters and animation packs that use the Epic Skeleton from the Unreal Engine Marketplace—most creators already optimize for it, and it makes the whole process almost dead simple. I walk through taking an animation pack skeleton (my fighting animations) and transferring those animations onto a different character skeleton (my cyber ninja). The core steps are: mark the skeletons as compatible in the Skeleton Editor, create IK Rigs for both source and target, then create an IK Retargeter to run the transfer and export the animations. I also call out a bug where the target preview might not play in the retarget window even though the export works—so don’t panic, just test the animation in a sequence. At the end I do a quick crash course on actually using the retargeted animations in Sequencer—adding clips, overlapping to blend, tweaking curves, and the crucial step: right-clicking animations and matching them to a bone (I usually use pelvis).
