How do you generate PayPal checkout links dynamically from an AI Studio app?

I trigger a Make.com webhook from the “Continue to payment” button and send two things: the Firebase ID token and the plan name. In Make, I exchange the ID token to get the user’s UID (without exposing sensitive data), authenticate to PayPal, then create a subscription and extract the approve URL. That approve URL is what I send back to AI Studio to redirect the user.

I add a second Make.com scenario that receives PayPal webhook events for billing/subscriptions. The payload includes custom_id (I set that to the user UID) and the plan_id, so I can update the correct /users/{uid} document. Then I write fields like status, plan, period_end, subscription_id, and credits_remaining so the frontend can react instantly.

At minimum, I track status, plan, plan_id, period_start, period_end, and subscription_id. Status is the key because it tells the app whether to unlock features (active) or block access (expired/canceled). Subscription_id is non-negotiable if you want users to be able to cancel inside your app.

Why does my app show users as Free right after PayPal payment, and how do I fix it?

Accepted Answer

Because PayPal doesn’t instantly flip you to active in your database—there’s a processing window. I fix it by detecting PayPal statuses like approval_pending or active_pending and showing a “verifying your payment” loader in the plan box. Once the webhook hits and Firestore updates, the UI switches to Plus/Premium automatically.
