History in the Making: An Inside Look at CPRIT, Texas’s Bold Cancer Initiative Join the Eanes History Group at Westbank Library for a look at a remarkable chapter in recent Texas history. The Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) was established in 2007 with a $3 billion investment approved by Texas voters and reaffirmed in 2019 with an additional $3 billion. It has become the largest state funder of cancer research in the nation. Its mission, to accelerate cancer cures, treatments, and prevention activities, has made an indelible impact over the past two decades. Now, Texas history hopes to repeat itself, as a new health initiative to prevent and combat dementia is currently being organized. This is truly Texas history in the making! Come hear from leaders at the forefront of medical research and prevention in Texas. Wayne Roberts, who recently retired as CEO of CPRIT, will introduce the program, and Kristen Doyle, current CEO of CPRIT, will be our speaker. On the second Monday of each month, join fellow history buffs in learning about, sharing, and celebrating the heritage of the Eanes area. Held at Westbank Community Library.
