Today I have the 'superman' exercise to introduce to you. For those of you that have done Pilates you will no doubt be familiar with it but hopefully will find this recap useful. This exercise is great for the following: ⭐ Improving core muscle strength throughout the back (abdominal muscles and back muscles) ⭐ Improving strength around the shoulder region The Superman exercise will benefit you if you have: ✔️ History of low back pain ✔️ Have or previously had shoulder issues or tennis/golfer's elbow ✔️ 'Winging' scapulae (shoulder blades) ✔️ Weak gluteal (buttock) muscles ✔️ Sedentary job ✔️ Poor posture The exercise is best performed on the floor, so it's for those of you that can get on and off the floor safely. As the exercise is on all fours some people may find it uncomfortable on the wrists or knees. If so try to do it on your most padded carpet or rug, or a thick yoga mat. Please do not persist with this exercise if you are uncomfortable in the starting position! I have split the exercise into three parts: Arm raise (Start with this one, unless you are doing this exercise for rehabilitating from shoulder or arm injury - if so you should start with video 2) Leg raise Diagonal arm and leg raise (most challenging level) ⭐ Enjoy! It is deceptively more challenging than you'd think when done slowly and correctly! ⭐ Top tip: use a full length mirror or someone else in your household (if you live with others) to give you feedback on your posture and check you do not dip through your low back or twist through your back with this exercise. As ever I would love to hear how you get on with this exercise. Maybe send me video of yourself so I can help guide you more! Please forward this exercise email to anyone else you think would enjoy and benefit from it.
