In this video I’m sitting with a question that sounds almost contradictory (but it’s not): where do you need to slow down in order to make faster progress? Because a lot of the time, the “rush” isn’t productivity—it’s anxiety in a trench coat. And when I try to brute-force my way through art, habits, or a project, I usually end up wasting more time: restarting, second-guessing, overcorrecting, or burning out and disappearing from my own sketchbook. So I talk about slowing down as a creative ritual: choosing fewer priorities, giving your process enough space to actually work, and noticing the places where you’re speeding up to avoid discomfort (like uncertainty, imperfection, or the quiet). This is especially true in spooky art education—if you want your drawings to feel intentional, you need time to see, to think, to let the mood land. My takeaway is simple: slow is not the enemy of progress. Slow is often the doorway to consistency, clarity, and the kind of momentum that doesn’t cost you your magic.
