The Interactive Flashcard Blueprint: - Acknowledge the Ceiling: Recognize that NotebookLM is rooted in text-based source grounding. It won't fetch internet images or render local ones on flashcards yet (even though it can make infographics...). - Switch to Gemini 3 Pro: Don't use the Fast model for coding tasks. The Pro model with reasoning enabled is required for the next step. - Enable Canvas: Go to Tools and select Canvas to move from a standard chat to a generative UI workspace. - Prompt for an Application: Don't just ask for flashcards. Ask Gemini to "Create an interactive React flashcard application" and describe the behavior (e.g., "front shows image, back shows text on click"). - Iterate the Code: Be prepared to point out hallucinated labels. If the AI calls a cat a "tiger," tell it to fix the data array in Canvas. A few thoughts I'll share: - The Same Image Bug: Gemini 3 Pro has a tendency to reuse the same image URL across multiple cards. You’ll need a follow-up prompt specifically asking for "unique Unsplash IDs for every card." - NotebookLM Artifact Locking: I am not aware of any way to get images in flashcards in NotebookLM specifically.
