About This Video

In this video I’m doing something a bit different: a proper sit-down chat about a project I’m setting myself for 2026—downsizing my fountain pen “collection”. I say “collection” because most of my pens aren’t some carefully curated theme (except, apparently, my habit of hunting down matte Lamy Safaris). The reality is I’m a pen user first, and after almost 10 years of reviewing plus the years before that, I’ve ended up with a library of around 630 fountain pens… which is just too many for how I want to enjoy this hobby now. My plan is simple, but I’m trying to be strategic about it. Most pens are currently stored in the cardboard trays pens ship in, and as I ink a pen and actually use it, it earns a place in my “permanent” storage—my drawer set plus Galen Leather trays—which caps me at about 88 pens (plus the Safaris). Once those trays are full, it becomes a one-in-one-out system, so by the end of 2026 I’ll have a clear view of what I genuinely reach for. Anything that doesn’t get used (and isn’t sentimental) will be sold or given away, at reasonable prices, with charitable donations from sales—likely to a diabetes-related cause, because I’m a type 1 diabetic. This is mostly about accountability, clarity, and getting great pens into the hands of people who will actually use them.
