About This Video

In this video I’m looking at the Nahvalur (yes, the spelling changed, but it’s still pronounced “Narwhal”) Triad fountain pen — the most affordable pen in their lineup, and honestly the biggest surprise I’ve had from the brand. I’ve reviewed a bunch of Nahvalur pens over the years with pretty mixed feelings, but this one lands firmly in the “love” category for me. It’s a simple, youthful, injection-moulded plastic pen with a snap cap, a triangular grip (that’s the “Triad” bit), and a small steel medium nib with a clear feed. I go through the packaging, the materials, the grip comfort, posting (it posts deeply and securely — a trait I really enjoy), and the dimensions and weight. It’s a cartridge/converter pen that uses standard international cartridges, but it doesn’t come with a converter, which is definitely one of my gripes at this price. Then I do a writing sample with Diamine 1864 Blue Black and talk about the real headline: the nib. For about $35 AUD, this is the most consistently smooth, reliable Nahvalur nib I’ve used — and that makes it a genuinely great option for a first fountain pen, a bag pen, or something you can “penable” someone with without worrying.
