About This Video

In this video I’m reviewing the Asvine C2000 in green ebonite, a pen I was genuinely excited to try because I already think the C2000 model is a great thing (I reviewed the stabilized wood version previously). The star of the show here is the ebonite: you get this gorgeous green ripple that almost reads like wood grain, and in the hand it’s got that warm, non-plasticky feel that ebonite does so well. Design-wise it’s a big flat-top pen with a conical end, gold trim, a twist cap (about 1 and 3/4 turns), and it posts securely—although it becomes very long posted. I go through the key specs and ergonomics, then do a writing sample with the #8 Asvine steel extra fine nib inked with Lamy Petrol. I’ll say it plainly: it’s a broad extra fine, smooth, wet, reliable, and these #8 Asvine nibs are a bit of a game changer. I had no hard starts, no ink starvation, and after leaving it unused for well over a week it still started immediately. I also cover the business end: it’s a more premium Asvine, sitting around $110–$120 AUD when I checked. My main knocks are the big branding and the clip being a bit short for such a large pen, but the material, build, and that nib performance make this a really special journaling pen for the money.
