March 2026 crept up on me, so I’m doing what I always do: dumping a whole case of pens on the desk and talking through what I’m actually writing with day to day. This month’s lineup is a mix of staples and review pens. My Wingback stainless steel fountain pen (with a Kaweco Liliput clip) is still my everyday carry and it’s still always inked with Diamine Oxford Blue. The Gravitas Monster is finally getting low after months of heavy writing (lyrics, pages and pages of it), and it’s still putting down a gloriously wet broad line with Octopus Fluids “Fountain Fader” (Sheet Veta). From there I move through the rest of the rotation: the Pilot Sterling with Pilot Iroshizuku Shin-kai (and I ask for thoughts on Pilot’s pigmented blue), the Venvstas Magna CC with a titanium medium nib and a wintery Pilot grey, plus several pens that are getting reviews this month—Majohn P140 (Robert Oster Australian Shiraz), Benu Tribute Darwin (SBRE Brown), and the Hongdian Forest Max (Diamine Bilberry). I’ve also got two classics inked identically for a proper comparison: the Pilot Custom Heritage 912 and the Sailor Pro Gear Standard, both with Diamine Imperial Purple. I finish out with a custom Huon Pine pen from That Pen Bloke (Diamine Kensington Blue), the Asvine C2000 green ebonite in extra fine (Lamy Petrol), and the Fifty4T Titan (Robert Oster Motor Oil). I’m also switching up my EDC a lot this month—more ballpoints and mechanical pencils—because work and rehearsals demand practicality.
