About This Video

In this video I’m reviewing the Gravitas Micarta Sentry Fountain Pen in the Red Linen micarta. I run through the parts and features up close: the peaked finials, the swelled cap with that Gravitas logo sitting beautifully on the material, and the way micarta shows that linen texture while still feeling smooth in the hand. It’s a twist cap (two turns) with some of the noisiest, crunchiest threads I’ve personally experienced—fixable, yes, but I always review pens as they come. You also get a metal section with micro grooves for grip (and to avoid staining the micarta), a #6 steel nib, and a standard international cartridge/converter setup with a converter included. I do size comparisons against a Lamy Safari, my Gravitas Delrin Sentry, and the Piston Carbon Black (my current favourite Gravitas), then I move into a writing sample with Robert Oster Sedona Red. The big takeaway: my nib had skipping and hard starts, and it’s almost certainly baby’s bottom. When it writes, it’s gloriously smooth, nicely wet, and slightly stubby—so it’s frustratingly close to being spectacular. At around €120 it’s not inexpensive, so I talk through the pros/cons honestly, and I also point people to Pen Venture if they want extra peace of mind.
