The Garden Is Changing… Spring Planting Begins

Today on the Laidback Homestead we’re transitioning our garden from winter to spring! After starting our tomato and pepper plants from seed, hardening them off, and caring for them all season, it’s finally time for some of them to graduate into the garden beds. Join me as I harvest the last of our winter vegetables, save seeds from brassicas and flowers, chop and drop old plants to feed the soil, amend our raised beds with compost and natural fertilizers, and plant out the first tomatoes and peppers of the 2026 spring garden. I’m sharing the exact tomato varieties I’m growing this year, how I prepare my beds for transplanting, and a few simple gardening tips that help my Southeast Louisiana garden stay productive season after season.
