Okay—this video is a bit of a rant, but it’s a rant I felt like I needed to make because I don’t think enough creators realize what’s happening. I’m talking about Artlist and Artgrid and how they’ve shifted hard into AI: AI video, AI image, AI voiceover—pushed right at the top of their sites. As someone who contributed to Artgrid from the very beginning (I sent them terabytes of my real travel and job footage), it feels like a punch in the face to watch them essentially say, “you don’t need stock footage anymore—just generate any shot you want.” What really set me off is seeing the direction plus the terms changing in a way that suggests uploaded footage can be used to train their models. So not only are they alienating the people who helped build the platform, they’re using creator work to fuel the very thing that replaces creators. I’m not anti-AI across the board—I’m fine with AI tools that help creators (like cleanup/removal tools in Photoshop). But I draw a hard line at prompt-based generation that’s trained on other people’s art. I also talk about how I’ve navigated this as a business owner with Tropic Colour and Prism Lens FX—choosing to keep supporting handcrafted, curated assets and in-camera artistry, because I genuinely believe there will always be a place for real texture, practical effects, and authentic capture.
