I think one of the coolest, most underrated “features” of any camera isn’t a spec sheet thing at all—it’s the places it can take you. As filmmakers and photographers, our cameras open doors to experiences that a lot of careers just don’t. Whether it’s traveling for work to places like Hong Kong, Hawaii, Italy, or Europe, or getting access to concerts, NBA games, and film sets, the camera becomes the key that gets you in the room. And honestly, I don’t think we appreciate that enough. It’s not just the locations—it’s the people and connections you meet along the way. I’ve had moments where I was directing for people I grew up watching, and that never happens without me starting with a camera in my hand (for me, it was a T2i) and shooting run-and-gun projects for free or for $100–$200. The freelance roller coaster is real—booked and busy one month, wondering where the next check is the next—but I’ve always believed I’d rather make less money doing what I love than get paid a ton to do something I despise. If you follow the passion, lay the groundwork, keep posting your work, and stay consistent, the right project can literally find you years later—like this international travel gig that came from stock footage I put out just because I love traveling and shooting.
