About This Video

Nothing lasts forever—and I wanted to share a quick piece of personal advice as we head into 2026. I use my first YouTube channel (the one I started back in 2011) as the example. At one point it was my main bread and butter: over 300 million views, and I was consistently doing $10K–$20K/month just from YouTube ad revenue. Then the YouTube ad apocalypse hit, claims started happening, ads got pulled, artists I worked with began posting on their own channels, and the income dropped off a cliff. But the bigger lesson is the pivot. Even when that channel was booming, I knew I didn’t want to be 50 or 60 still directing music videos, so I was laying groundwork in the background—building businesses like Tropic Colour, Prism Lens Effects, and the studios. And the same cycle happened again: Tropic used to be our bread and butter, but now digital assets are a dime a dozen; the studios shifted too as the industry changed, AI grew, and competition increased. Industries change, your interests change (especially when life changes—like me having a family), and you have to be ready to adapt. Don’t chase dollar signs—business gets hard, and passion is what helps you push through the valleys.
