Yeah—this is the video where I explain why I sold all of my real estate investments to pay off my home and simplify my life. I sold my LA house, my 40-acre film ranch in Adelanto, and my Airbnb here in Arizona. Two of those properties I made good money on, and one of them I lost a lot of money on (the LA house). But the bigger point wasn’t “building the biggest portfolio possible”—it was getting my life back and getting to a place where my wife and I could own our home free and clear. At 35, with twin toddlers at home and another baby on the way, I just don’t want a bunch of extra responsibilities weighing on my shoulders. Real estate can be great, but it comes with constant upkeep, mental load, and time-sucking problems. Time is the most valuable asset, and I’d rather put that time into my family and into the businesses I’m actively nurturing—Prism Lens FX and our film studios. I also break down the interest side of this decision. When we walked into the bank to pay off the mortgage early, it felt like, “Fuck that interest.” Paying the house off around the 7-year mark saves us a massive amount of interest over a 30-year loan—well over $500,000 in our case. Now we’re mortgage-free, have money in the bank, and can invest back into the things that actually matter to us.
