In this video I pushed Wi‑Fi 7 mesh to the absolute limit—on an abandoned runway. I brought the ASUS ZenWiFi BT8 two‑pack, stuck one node at point A with a 4G modem feeding it (because Starlink and 5G were actually slower out there, which is nuts), and then walked and drove down the airstrip to see how long 5 GHz and 6 GHz would hang on with pure line of sight. The results genuinely blew me away: I was still pulling real, usable speeds way further than you’d ever expect from 6 GHz, and even when it started bouncing around, it stayed connected for ages. Then I did the real test: two nodes with Wi‑Fi 7 MLO (Multi‑Link Operation). Using the ASUS app I could actually see the backhaul running across 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz at the same time—basically an “invisible wire” between the nodes. With that setup, the range and stability were on another level, and I was still able to run speed tests deep down the runway. My big takeaway: outdoors with LOS, Wi‑Fi is a different animal—but indoors physics wins. If you can wire the backhaul (there’s a 2.5G port), do it. If you can’t, keep nodes close (ideally not more than a room apart). Pre‑2025 I wouldn’t have recommended mesh like this, but with MLO, 2025 really is the year for it.
